The AVM & Neurological Research Fund is proud to introduce the Medical Board Co-Directors, David Newell, M.D. and Jonathan Brisman, M.D. Dr. David Newell currently serves as Executive Director/Medical Director for the Seattle Neuroscience Institute. He previously held the post of Acting Chief of Neurosurgery at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and Professor of Neurological Surgery at the University of Washington – Seattle. Dr. Newell was honored with the “Best Doctors In America Award” and “Seattle’s Best Physicians Chosen By Their Peers Award (Vascular Neurosurgery).” Dr. Newell earned his M.D. from Case Western Reserve University (1982), courses in graduate research at Harvard University, and received his undergraduate degree from Boston University (1976). Dr. Newell’s leadership in neurosurgery has earned him a reputation as among the best in the field. Newell’s Curriculum Vitae Dr. Jonathan Brisman currently serves as Director of Cerebrovascular and Endovascular Services for the New Jersey Neuroscience Institute at the JFK Medical Center and Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Seton Hall University. Dr. Brisman was Chief Neurosurgical Resident at Massachusetts General Hospital, receiving the American Association of Neurological Surgeons Resident Award, before taking fellowships in Microvascular Neurosurgery (David Newell, M.D. and Marc Mayberg, M.D., Swedish Medical Center, Seattle)and Interventional Neuroradiology (Alex Berenstein, M.D., Roosevelt Hosptial, NY). He earned his M.D. from the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons (1995) and his undergraduate degree from Harvard University (1990). Dr. Brisman is a rising star in neurosurgery.
